Bobcats Sweep Slippery Rock (D1) in Season Opener

The Bobcats started their season off with two wins at home this weekend against Slippery

Rock (D1). On Friday night, the Bobcats got off to a good start and scored 2 goals in the first period, Slippery Rock tied up the game later in the second period. Freshmen forward Jack Struwing scored the go-ahead goal late in the second, resulting in a scoreless third period. Returners Mason Schmitt and CJ Hoy were active on Friday night each with a goal and assist Bobcats 3-2 victory. Veteran goaltender Michael Lively had an outstanding first game with 34 saves. On Saturday, Slippery Rock was first to attack scoring in the first period. Bobcats that rallied scoring 3 unanswered goals. After a chippy second period full of action the score was 3-1 Bobcats. In the third period the Bobcats scored a again, but Slippery Rock wasn’t done fighting, scoring 2 goals in the final minutes of the game. Final score 4-3, CJ Hoy finished with a goal and an assist, sophomore Kyle Kinnamon scored a goal as well returners Matty Geither and Collin Gustafuson. Freshmen Corbin Gustafson had 19 saves in the victory on Saturday.

Next week the Bobcats travel to Delaware for two tough away games at Fred Rust Arena at the University of Delaware.
