Bobcats Fall to Bearcats in Shootout

Saturday, September 24th the Ohio Bobcats opened the 2016-17 season at Bird Arena facing off against the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. The Bobcats started off quick by netting their first goals of the season 0:28 seconds into the 1st period. The goal was scored by #10 Nick Aleva (1), his first as a Bobcat, assisted by #27 Nathan McPherson and #17 CJ Hoy. However, the Bearcats answered at the 13:10 mark and finished the period off knotted 1-1. The Bobcats came out quick again to start the 2nd period with #23 Alex Little (1) scoring at the 18:43 mark but Cincinnati was able to counter with 11:45 left in the 2nd to tie the game at 2-2. The Bobcats would take the lead heading into the 3rd period thanks to a big point shot from #8 Drake Drieberg (1), assisted by #22 Tyler Gebhardt at the 4:14 mark of the 2nd period. At the 13:11 mark of the 3rd period #21 Matty Geither (1) would add an insurance goal for the Bobcats, assisted by #12 Logan Drell and #20 Joe Pergolizzi. However, Cincinnati battled back 3 minutes later to bring the score to within one and then with 0:52 seconds left in the 3rd period tie the game to send it into overtime. After an exciting 5 minute overtime period, the Bobcats and Bearcats would require a shootout to determine a victor. Following the first 3 shooters, the score remained tied and the teams headed into extra shooters. Cincinnati was able to capitalize on their 4th shot and Ohio was shut down by the Bearcat goaltender. The lone scorer in the shootout for Ohio was #17 CJ Hoy and a valiant effort was put forth by Ohio goaltender #1 Joe Juratovac stopping in the game 34 of 38 shots (including a penalty shot) and also stopping 2 of the 4 shootout shooters from Cincinnati.
