Bobcats down Hokies but fall to Flames


Ohio Bobcats DII Hockey earned the team’s third win of the season this past Friday against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Bobcats outshot the Hokies 34 to 13 but could only manage to beat Virginia Tech goaltender, Tanner Jones on 3 occasions. Leading the Bobcats attack was Tyler Gebhardt, who contributed a goal and assist, Austin Reynolds also added two assists. Alex Little crashed the net and cashed in for his first goal of the year with an assist coming from Logan Drell and Joe Pergolizzi. As the Hokies tied the contest at two early in the third period, the Bobcats continued to press and with 5:30 remaining on the clock, Sam Clellen buried a one timer from the slot with the assists coming from Gebhardt and Reynolds. The Bobcats would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game, winning 3-2. In net, Joe Juratovac stopped 11 of the 13 shots faced and earned his first win of the year.

Saturday brought the Bobcats their first loss of the season, as the team fell to the Liberty Flames 6-4. The Bobcats came out to play in the first period producing 3 goals and out shooting the Flames 13-5. The Bobcats first period scoring came from Nick Levine with an unassisted goal, Logan Drell, assisted by Gebhardt and Zac Barngrover, and Collin Gustafson, assisted by Clellen and Barngrover. With an early second period shorthanded goal from Nathan McPherson, assisted by Hunter Brett the Bobcats held a two goal lead but it would only last 19 seconds as the Flames capitalized on the power play. Liberty would add 3 more unanswered goals through the second and third periods and outshoot the Bobcats in the final two frames 18-9. In goal for the Bobcats was Juratovac stopping 17 of 23 shots.

The loss brings the Bobcats season record to 3-1.

Next Up: The Bobcats travel to the University of Millersville (2-3-0) for a two game series, Friday, Oct. 2nd at 7:00PM and Saturday, Oct. 3rd at 5:45PM both games will be played at Lancaster Ice Rink, located in Lancaster, PA.
