Ohio University ACHA Division II Men's Ice Hockey History

Ohio University's ACHA Division II Men’s Hockey team was established in 2009, by Ohio University alumni students Nick Frasse and Sean Roach. With the assistance of Dan Morris (Ohio University's Division I Head Coach at the time), the team was accepted the following year into the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and played an independent schedule in its first year. The inaugural season the Bobcats posted a 13-8-2 record and clinched the programs first ever win on October 2, 2010 against Wright State University by a score of 6-0. Leading the team behind the bench was Head Coach Matt Staehely and assistant coach Beau Nishimura.  During the 2011 - 2012 season, Philip Oberlin took over as Head Coach and the team joined the Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League (TSCHL), which enabled the Bobcats to compete against league opponents, University of Dayton, Wright State University, University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, University of Akron, University of Pittsburgh, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and West Virginia University. Over the recent seasons the Bobcats have shown a tremendous improvement since forming in 2009, making it to the programs first ever National Tournament in 2017 and winning the TSCHL Championship in 2018.
