The Ohio University, Bird Arena is located on campus and is home to both the ACHA Division I and ACHA Division II Men’s Ice Hockey teams. Bird Arena is an indoor ice facility featuring an illuminated 190' by 85' ice surface. Other features of Bird Arena include spectator seating for 1,800 fans, a glass enclosed mezzanine overlooking the ice surface, a full pro-shop, concession stand, administrative offices, coach’s film room, Athletic Training room, restrooms, and four public locker rooms.
Activities include recreational skating, Learn to Play Hockey, Athens Youth Hockey Association, academic classes, intramural broomball, recreational hockey, learn to skate programs, figure skating, birthday parties, and private rentals. The facility is open from late August to April and available to university students, faculty/staff, alumni, and community. Since, Bird Arena falls under Ohio University Campus Recreation and Student Affairs, the facility and its staff is committed to improving the quality of life for its students, faculty, staff and their families, as well as quality learning and employment experiences for students. The departmental programs and facilities complement the academic goals of the university by encouraging physical, emotional and social growth of individuals by developing skills and positive attitudes through recreational leisure activities.
The Walter Fieldhouse is Campus Recreation's newest facility completed in 2014. The 93,750 square foot indoor multipurpose pavilion houses; 100 yard turf football field with two, 10-yard end zones, two All-American scoreboards; a 4-lane, 316 meter track; long jump and pole vault pits; golf and batting cages; two filming platforms; and a netting system that can accommodate multiple events/activities. The Bobcats primarily utilize Walter Field House during Winter Intersession for off-ice training and team building activities like football, soccer and ultimate frisbee.
