Ohio Bobcats

The Ohio Bobcats Division 2 Club Ice Hockey team lost in the semi-finals of the TSCHL playoffs to a tough University of Dayton Flyers team.

The Bobcats won an opening round contest against the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks by the score of 7-2.

Junior forward Shane Darrow and freshman forward Bryan Waldron scored two goals each against IUP.

The Bobcats advanced to face the regular-season champion Dayton Flyers. After falling behind 1-0 early, the Bobcats quickly evened the score. The Flyers took the lead again, but the Bobcats responded. The Flyers then took a 4-2 lead, but the resilient Ohio team rallied to tie the score again.  Bryan Waldron scored two goals again in the game against the Flyers, bringing the freshman’s weekend total to four.

A questionable penalty shot awarded to the Flyers enabled them to take the lead 5-4. The Bobcats failed to knot the score again and ultimately lost 7-4.

The Flyers moved on to the championship game and lost 10-5 to the University of Toledo Rockets.

The Bobcats would like to congratulate the Flyers for their regular season championship and the Rockets for their playoff championship.

Your D2 Bobcats

After finishing the final weekend of the regular season with a 6-4 loss to the Toledo Rockets and a convincing 8-1 victory against the Wright State Raiders, the Ohio University Division 2 team finished with nine wins and seven losses in Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League play and earned the fourth seed in this weekend’s league playoffs.

The Bobcats will face the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks in a 9 p.m. matchup this Friday night in Pittsburgh.

Earlier this season, the Bobcats beat the Crimson Hawks 7-4 at home then dropped a 3-1 decision on the road four weeks ago.

IUP finished in fifth place in the TSCHL with eight wins and eight losses.

Ryan Dougherty leads the Crimson Hawks in conference scoring with nine goals and seven assists in 14 games.  Jarrod Carley has the most conference points for the Bobcats with seven goals and eight assists in 14 games.

If the Bobcats win, they will play either the Dayton Flyers, who captured the TSCHL regular season title with 13 wins, two losses and one overtime loss, or the University of Pittsburgh Panthers, who finished with 12 wins, three losses and one overtime loss.  Both Pitt and Dayton earned first round byes.

The University of Toledo, the third seed for the playoffs, is set to play the Akron Zips, the number six seed.

The championship game will be played on Sunday.
